Enlistment date: September 29, 1971 and reporting date to my first
ship: USS Hassayampa AO-145 attacked; and yes you guessed it, this
was where my first ship was home ported (was exactly 30 years, 23
days after Pearl Harbor, Hawaii!!!) Then after requesting and having
said request approved I left the "HASS" on a "no cost swap to the
government" on or about February 22, 1974 and was consequently released
from active duty from the USS Harlan County LST-1196 on September
26, 1975 and then received my "Honorable Discharge" in 1977. In (or
about) March of 1976 I received a letter from (either) the Navy or
Veterans Administration informing me that I qualified for two (2)
separate disabilities for a total of 20%; making me a disabled American
Vietnam Veteran! (Hoo-Raah) And if I had it all to do over again,
the only thing that I would change would have to be to make sure
I had a guaranteed A-school coming out of boot camp. Hope to hear
from you all soon and communicate with y' all again!
