Marie Kostalos 1950 Children-Stephen-Lyn-Scott
I tried to enlist in the U.S.Navy at the age
of 16, but was refused, until I turned 17 November, 1947. Received Boot
Training at Great Lakes N.T.C, Camp Barry Co.162.

After being discharged ("after the Truman Year")
in November 1951, 1 started employment at the Brooklyn Navy Yard as a shipbuilder.
Three of the ships I helped build was the USS Saratoga CVA 60 Independence
CVA 62
Constellation CVA 64
I was very proud going on the first Sea Trials
of all three carriers. With the closing of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, in 1967
1 transferred to the Philadelphia Navy Yard (relocated to Marlton, NJ)
until retirement in 1973.
The remainder of my working years I was employed
by a large supermarket and retired and last but not least employed and
retired from the Board of Education.

My time is spent now being a Historian
for the USS Weiss APD 135 Association
and also still looking for shipmates who served
aboard. I have so far, found over 200 shipmates. The USS Weiss served in
World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam.
