Beyond Expectations The book is a personal memoir packed with lots of additional information, humor, and great stories. The author did a marvelous job of weaving what could have been some complicated information that would allow readers not familiar with the subject matter to understand it. He documented his conviction that he was under the protection of a guardian angel to get him safely come through so many escapades. The unprecedented successes from his style of command are worth reading by anyone in positions of responsibility and worth considering emulating. Sailors starting out in the navy should find Beyond Expectations both an inspiration and informative. Like a flower – or maybe a weed—Frank Forsberg managed to thrive in the arid soil of the great depression. Surely traveling across country with hoboes in the middle of that depression couldn’t have given sixteen –year old Forsberg reason to expect much of a future. With that in mind, retiring as a navy captain became the basis for the title Beyond Expectations.
