I went to Great Lakes, Il. in December of 1967. Upon completion of my recruit training I was assigned to the USS Springfield CLG-7 (2nd fleet flagship). I served onboard the Springfield until sometime in the middle of 1970, at that time the Springfield was scheduled to relieve the USS Little Rock CLG-4 as the sixth fleet flagship. I was transferred to the USS Strong DD-758 homeported out out of Charleston, SC in which my navy tour came to an end in September of 1971, the day we hit liberty port Barcelona, Spain. Sadly i understand the USS  Strong now lies at the bottom of the ocean off the brazillian coast. I have many fond
memories of my navy days and especially the USS Strong.
