Served from 1967 to 1970. Went to Bainbridge NTC and was then assigned
to NATTC, NAS JAXFL at the Personnel Office. While there, I was charged
with registering young students (sailors and marines) fresh out of boot
camp. Registration included giving them their chow pass, liberty pass,
sick bay pass, new dog tags (if needed), and updating their page 6 of orders.
Honorably discharged in January of 1970. Loved my days as a USN WAVE -
best time of my life.
Cathy enlisted in the US Navy WAVES in July of 1967, right after her
graduation from River Dell High School in Oradell, NJ. July of 1967 was
a time that was right at the height of the Viet Nam War - Cathy's service
in the WAVES was active duty during wartime, enabling her to become a recipient
of all benefits awarded to wartime service members. She was stationed at
NATTC NASJAXFL for her entire enlistment. She held a variety of positions
during her enlistment, including working in the Personnel Department, where
she was one of several WAVES who were charged with the flow of sailors
and marines who were transitioning between basic training and their eventual
duty stations aboard the aircraft carriers that would go to sea and serve
on WESTPAC cruises, assisting the US Navy during the Viet Nam War.
