After "Delayed Entry Program" actively served from April
1971 to April 1993. Starting in RTC, San Diego, MM "A" School, first sea
going assignment was aboard the USS Diamondhead (AE-19), took the long
way to a transfer to the USS Fort Snelling (LSD-30). In 1975 was
transferred to USS Holland (AS-32) completing a refit in NSY Bemerton,WA.
From sailed the ship to homeport in Charleston, SC via the Panama Canal,
only to have the ship trransferred to Holy Loch, Scotland. I attended NAVSCOLCRYOGENICS
during my tour and then crossdecked to the USS Hunley (AS-31). I had a
chance to meet royalty in Lord Montbatten before his tragic death in an
explosion. During this time I not only fell in love with Scotland but also
fell in love and was married and a family of three intelligent young ladies.
Saw my only shore duty at NAVSEACENPAC, San Diego and then returned to
Scotland aboard USS Simon Lake (AS-33). After spending most of my career
in Scotland I attended the Senior Enlisted Academy in Newport, RI enroute
to serving on the USS Pensacola (LSD-38)until I retired in April 1993.
During my career I was involved in Humanutarian support in the floods of
'72 in PA, refugee relief in the Carribean, and Combat support in the Middle
East during the Kuwaiti War. I had the chance to see a lot of the world
and to mingle with a lot of cultures that I believe we are all better for.
