Served from June 1960 to June 1964.  Went to Great Lakes Recruit Training
Center, and was assigned to NAS Jacksonville, FL shortly thereafter.  I was
then sent to a fighter squadron, VF-13, at Cecil Field, FL.  I was deployed
aboard the USS Independence, CVA 62,and the USS Lexington, CVA-16 with
VF-13 during the Cuban Crisis.  We left out of Mayport, FL aboard the
Independence and participated in the Cuban blockade for 30 days.  We returned
to Mayport disembarked the Independence and immediately boarded the
Lexington and went back to Cuba and stayed another 12 days in the blockade.
In 1962, I was again transfered to NAS,Port Lyautey, Kenitra, Morocco (N.
Africa) where I stayed till June 1964 when I was sent to Phila, PA for my
honorable discharge.
