HT1 Barry was born in St. Augustine, Florida. He entered the
Navy at AFEES Jacksonville, Florida on 15 March 1977, after
completing Basic Recruit Training in San Diego, California. In May
1977, he reported to Basic Electricity and Electronics school in San
Diego, California. He then reported to Phase I Hull Maintenance
"A" school in Treasure Island, California, completing the phase in
August 1977. He then reported to Phase II of HT "A" school, and
received orders to USS FORRESTAL (CV-59) in October 1977. He
served there until February 1981, when he mustered out of the Navy.
HT1 Barry re-entered the Navy in November 1982 and was ordered
to REPAIR Department Submarine Intermediate Maintenance
Activity U.S. Naval Submarine Base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After
serving there until November 1984, he reported to C-l Welding
school in San Diego, California. In April 1985, he was ordered to the
USS RATHBURNE(FF-1057). In May 1987, he reported to Assault
Craft Unit 4 in Panama City, Florida, for LCAC (Landing Craft Air
Cushion) training and testing. After the Virginia complex was built,
in December 1987, Assault Craft Unit 4's home port was changed to
Little Creek, VA. He served there until August 1990. He was then
ordered to Ships Intermediate Maintenance Activity Mayport,
Florida. In December 1993 he reported to Apra Harbor, Guam to the
USS HOLLAND (AS-32) until being ordered to the final duty station
of his enlistment, TRIDENT Refit Facility, Banger, WA., where he
completed his 20 years of active duty for The United States Navy.
